Common Questions and Answers about ISA Certification
Is there a practice exam available?
There are no practice exams available at this time. To help you study, we do offer exam outlines and suggested
study materials. Both of these resources will provide details about the content of the exams.
Does ISA or my local ISA chapter offer any prep classes to help me study for the ISA Certified Arborist® exam?
Your local ISA chapter may have prep classes or trainings available prior to the exam. You will need to contact
your local ISA chapter directly for more information about availability and cost.
If a preparation class is not offered in your area or during the timeframe that you need one, ISA offers study
materials that you may purchase to help prepare for the exam as a self-study option.
How do I submit my exam application?
Exam applications can be completed online and immediately sent to the ISA Certification Department through our online application system.
If you prefer to send it by mail or FAX, applications are available for you to print.
I did not receive a confirmation e-mail from ISA after I submitted my certification application online. Did it go through?
After submitting your online application, you will receive an e-mail confirming that your application has been received. This e-mail is
sent to the e-mail address provided on your application. If you do not receive an e-mail after you submit your application online,
contact the ISA Certification Department at cert@isa-arbor.com and they will verify if your application was successfully received.
What are the costs involved in taking the ISA Certification Exam?
The cost of the ISA Certification exam depends on which exam you are taking and whether or not you are a member of ISA and your
local chapter. Please refer to the application handbook for the exam fees.
When is the next exam date in my area?
Go to the Exam Dates and Locations page to determine upcoming paper-based exams in your
local area. If no paper-based exams are offered in your area, you may choose to take a computer-based exam at a Pearson VUE testing facility.
Can I take the ISA Certification exam at a location and time that is convenient for me through computer-based testing?
Yes, all certification exams are available as computer-based exams. Visit the Pearson
VUE site to learn more about testing locations in your area.
Is the application available in Spanish for any of the exams?
Yes, both the ISA Certified Arborist®, ISA
Certified Tree Worker Climber Specialist® and ISA Certified Tree Worker Aerial Lift Specialist® exams are available in Spanish.
I'm schedule to take an exam but can't make it. Can I reschedule?
Yes, it is possible to reschedule. You can complete the reschedule request form and submit
to the Certification Department by fax, email or mail. If you are rescheduling a written exam after the 12 working
day deadline you will be subject to a $50 USD fee.
My results were close to the passing grade, can I have my exam hand graded to ensure the score is correct?
Yes, you can challenge your exam score and request a re-grade of your electronic results. You can complete the Examination
re-grade form and submit to the Certification Department by fax,
email or mail. A fee of $35 USD applies for each hand graded score report.
