need advice on privacy hedge

I'm a nwebie here, so please help me out. I am wanting to plant a privacy hedge on the east side of my property,270 feet long. Privacy is the key word here. I am wanting to block out the house next door, and I am considering Canadian Hemlock, Arborvitae or Siberian Elm. I am leaning towards the evergreens so as to have year round screen. Can you give me the pros and cons of each species? I am in NE Kansas.
