We have had some success in Charlotte pushing the planting season to mid May. However it was a wet season and as we moved out of the latter part of April our survival rate dwindled to approximately 30% or less for live staking of Cornus ammomum. Cornus ammomum is a top performer in our region. All material was installed within 48 hours of harvesting.
If it is a large or critical project I would recommend stabilizing temporarily with annual ground cover such as Panicum ramosa and matting (100% biodegradable) until the following planting season.
It helps to know what zone of the country your in.
