growing a christmas tree indoors

This is the first year I did not buy a cut chirstmas tree,
instead, My Grandparents bought me a potted Blue spruce to
keep in my apartment. the guy at the place where they bought
it said that after I was done using it as a christmas tree
that I should put it in the garage for a couple of weeks and
then move it outside until spring when i can plant it in the
ground. I am studying to become a horticulturist and love
having plants growing in my appartment, but I have never
tried growing a Blue Spruce inside before. Do you have any
tips on what i should do to keep it alive and growing, or is
there any special care i need to be giving it?
