I have a very large, old apple tree that until 2-3 years ago bore really good apples. I live in Chebanse Ill. 60 mi. so. of Chicago. I have beentold by a few people that the red cedar trees ( some people say they are juniper) in my yard are causing it's decline. Apple cedar rust they claim. Do I have to remove these cedar trees that the birds are SO fond of to save my apple tree ? Would it help to trim it or top it ? I have read in many places that topping trees harms them. What else could you do but top them ? I always thought fruit trees were supposed to remain small.
HELP! Randy
