We recently bought a palm called 'zamia'. It had only 1 leaf. After
1 week, it grew another shoot, but later, the shoot shriveled and died.

I noticed some white powdery spots on the roots and in the
soil (i uprooted it to see what was wrong).

Question :
1) what's that white powdery thing and how do i get rid of it?
Actually, it looks like mealy bugs, except that its in the
soil.
2) any tips on how to take care of my zamia (or any palm)
would be greatly appreciated.
