i am wondering if you found the answer to the questions. my fig tree is in my backyard, in n.c. and i have never cut it back. i think it is time to do so here, but i am not sure about you. they told me no need to seal the cuts. just prune before real cold weather. my tree has really done just fine without cutting it back for 5 years but it is so big and i thought it might help the production of the figs next year. hope yours does well and happy turkey day.
