You answered your question. This late in the game about the only thing you can do is prune out dead/diseased wood. Too much pruning and you will get lots of non-fruiting wood. Take it slow on structural pruning, maybe get on a 3-5 yr plan to encourage new fruiting wood. Contact your local extension service for more local advise.
