latin name for fig tree

We have acquired a fig tree for our school. The janitor is an avid plant person and was wondering what the latin name for a fig tree was? He has a horticulture book and can look up the care of a fig tree if he knows the latin name. It is quite large,almost 8 feet tall. Thanks.
