Am I nuts?

Hi Y'all!

My name is Cliff and I live just east of Sacramento, CA
near the base of the Sierra foothills. I have been plotting
and planning my piece of the world for many years and may be
able to realize the dream soon as my wife and I are looking
at properties to build on now. My wife has expressed some
concerns with my ideas for the land. I thought I would run
them by some "experts" in the field before I am dissapointed
later. So here goes:

I have always been fascinated by the variety of trees in the
world and thought it would be really cool to have a little
park-like setting on some property that reflected my views.
I now have growing in pots Mourning Cypress from Oregon
(native of China), Incense Cedar (not sure), Eucalyptus
(Australia), Jeffrey and Sugar Pine (right here in CA),
and various fruit and nut (apple, pear, apricot, peach,
plum, almond, and pecan. Most properties we are considering
already have some oak trees and manzinita (sp?). We are
looking at properties of approximately 1/2 acre and my wife
is certain I will not be able to plant my trees in the
ground without killing one or all or at a minimum, destroying
our land.

Will the soil in this area of California support all of the
species I have? How close can I plant a pine next to a
cypress next to an oak next to a eucaluptus next to fruit
and nut trees, etc? Some of the trees may grow to 60+ feet.
Will that cause problems? Any input will be taken seriously.

Thanks in advance?
