purple autum ash bores

I have 5 yr old purple autum ash which my landscaper says has had bores, they tried to give it shots but wouldn't take up the serum so they think maybe it has 50 50 chance it also had aphids, and a fungus last year. They think I should wait a year and see what happens, It has a lot of new growth and the trunk under the bark is green when scratched however the bark around the bore holes it flaking and dry, they told me to water it by a slow drizzle over night and they will come back to see if the serum will then be taken up, Am I wasting my time and money or should I replace the tree? Thank you
