Bad news I'm sorry. The damaged bark is just the begining of the problem. Leave the
exposed area alone. Do not paint it with anything! The damage is permanant and will affect the trees.
It is however the least of your worries. Chances are if you have had bark removed that
you have also had serious damage done to the other unseen half of the tree ... the roots.
This damage may cause even longer problems in time. It sounds like some time with a consulting
Arborist may be in order.
