? large severed root treatment ?

A deep trench was cut between two mature Slash Pines 18 to 20 "dbh's. The trench favored one being aprox. 4 to 5 feet from the trunk the other about 9' from its trunk. Some large roots were severed 8 to 10' in Dia. They are split cracked and broken due to the chewing action of the trencher.
I am planning to minimimly clean up the tattered ends to minimize damaged cell exposure.
Trees are located in sand where the water table leaves about 2 feet of airable soil.

Questions?

Is there any thing that might be done to help with root re-establishment?

Should the cut ends be treated as with a pruning spray?

Should one consider MYCORHIZAE introduction. Seems unnecessary.

Will applying nitrogen harm newly forming roots?
I plan to apply a slow release 6 6 6 and water thoroughly as stress conditions dictate (wind, rain, temporature).

I do plan to loosely cable the trees together in the upper 1/3 of canopy as I feel their stability is threatened from wind exposure and there callaps would damage nearby strucures and possibly threaten safety in surrounding human interactive areas.
