I was searching the web for information on root pruning and found this topic.
The previous posts suggest not pruning the roots but I live across the street from a grade school. While it would be nice for the kids not to run down the public sidewalk (that my oak tree roots grow under) I doubt it will happen.
I'm afraid a child will fall and hurt his self and the parents sue us.
Is there no way to prune the oak roots and save my beautiful tree? Do I cut out the whole root under the paving stones? Or just give it a "hair cut" by just cutting away the part sticking above ground? Do I seal it with something?
My house is in Jacksonville,FL. The house is 70 years old & the tree maybe 50 years or older. It's about 9-10 feet from the sidewalk. The other roots growing in the fenced yard doesn't bother me.
