Check with your local Utility Forester, he(she) should have a list of trees that are compatible with overhead utility lines. Most of these small maturing trees should work just as well in a small planting area. As Utility Forester for the Tallahassee FL Electric Dept. I have a list that I provide to local developers and LAs in hopes that they will plant the "Right Tree in the Right Place". I'd send you my list but somehow I don't think my list would be native to your area.
