Catalpa tree propagation?

I would like information on propagating Catalpa's. We have quite a few around our area, but I can't find any seedlings for sale. Since I see the seed pods laying around in gutters every fall I wondered how to get them started. They don't seem to naturally propagate here. (I live in east central Iowa (Davenport/Iowa City range)). Will I need to take some special measures to get them started this far north? Or do I need to start them from a clipping?
