Exudation from deodar cedars

Is anyone aware of a cause of exudation from the limbs
(usually undersides) of Cedrus deodara, deodar cedar?
The exudation is clear and seems to come from tiny pores.
There seems to be no disease or insects involved, although
at some points below exudation there is a small channel of
dried resin beneath the bark. I am seeing this in the San
Francisco Bay area of California.
