Chinese Holly berries

We trimmed and organically deep-root fertilized a Chinese holly back in November, 92. One year later our client says that the berries have changed their cycle and don't turn red until February, instead of in the fall. She thinks it's because of the trimming or fertilizing we did. We used a slow-release fertilizer (2-2-1) and I don't think there is a cause and effect with that, especially considering the length of time that has gone by. I believe that the berries come out on 2nd year growth, if I'm not mistaken, so I don't see any relationship with the trimming either, also considering the length of time. I would greatly appreciate any insight or help with this problem.
