There is an old arboricultural technique called "bridge
grafting" where small branches are grafted above and below
the girdled region. It is illustrated in a few of my old
books, including Horticultural Science, 2nd ed., Janick,
1963. Some old arboriculture books probably have it too.
I have a feeling it is "easier said than done", and would
be best left to one very experienced in grafting. I've
never had the need to do it, but I decided if I did I
would call in some experienced help. Debbie Ellis,
