It seems there is hope for those outraged property owners who have had large gapping
holes cut in their trees by utility contractors.

Is any one familiar with HENDRIX POWER DISTRIBUTION SYSTEMS?

It is a energized cable system that only cost about 8% to 12% more in installation that
VIRTUALLY ELIMINATES TREE PRUNING.

I have some information. Copies of a sales brochure sent to me from a
member of my arborist group, Jerry Gerde who had brought a demo video tape
to a meeting a few months back. The aerial cable system claimed to
virtually eliminate the need to prune trees.

I will send copies of what I have as soon as I set up the new scanner.

Essentially from what I understand, it utilizes spacers that hold a
messenger and conducting lines in a diamond configuration. Effectively
coated lines are held in a tight diamond configuration that reduces the
overall area that the lines occupy to about a foot in diameter. The
messenger is in the top supporting position and is capable of supporting a
snapped pole. It would appear that the only trimming necessary would be to
direct growth away from the one foot target area. This seems a vast
reduction in the area of canopy that needs to be maintained. Around here
utility contractors are cutting a minimum of a 10' radius from lines.

I performed a search using HENDRIX AERIAL CABLE SYSTEMS and managed to get the
address below. I am not sure though if its the right company. The
information from Jerry Gerde unfortunately doesn't possess any addresses or telephone
numbers on it.

Seems a practical solution to conflicts in residential situations where the economical and
safety concerns lead to aggressive pruning techniques that mutilate mature street trees.
Unfortunately its implementation in my area remains in doubt. Seems there is an
overwhelming fear of the loss of jobs and INVESTOR INCOME generated from line
clearance activities. And rightly so. Eventually as the conflicting lines where replaced it
would certainly posses a considerable impact. I can't help but to think that there is plenty of
room here in the real world of private arborist for all those that may be displaced. Besides
personally I pay groundsmen greater wages than these so called commercial giants in our
business do to aerial persons who must work around dangerous energized conditions.

Does anyone know of any thing similar?

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how one might spur a reluctant community utility
into at least experimentally trying such a system? I would be very interested in any similar
procedures and experiences.

If your interested E-MAIL me and or post a comment here and I will pass the information
along.
