Are their flowers are fruit. Its a wild guess but sounds like it could be a Jatropha. Older forms can be open branched and tree like, small red flowers and I believe drupes for fruit. Sometimes messy over surface areas.
I looked in a Nursery report produced by growers in So. Fl. and couldn't find any thing on shady lady. I suspect it is a new cultivar. My report however is a July 1992 issue. You might check with them. You might ask for a copy of the report as it lists the growers and availability on just about any kind of subtropical plant that is grown.
