I have recently found that a completely girdled Prunus serrulata, is doing as well as a sister plant fifty feet away, that is not girdled.
The tree was girdled by rodents. The swelled bole and calus are well formed on the girdled tree. Buds are healthy, growth is excellent.
It must have been girdled for a number of years. There is no conection between the cambium and the roots! There must be root grafts but ther nearest tree is fifty feet away. The caliper of the two trees are
five inches at four and one half feet above grade. Please contact me if you have had any experience inarching cherry or growing advantageous roots from calus growth in a similar situation. thank you.
Sincerely,

Gary S Carbocci
