I beg to disagree about anecdotal evidence offered by practioners: when I first began learning tree care 30 years ago after studying botany at Duke, tree climbers who had not finished junior high school explained to me quite efectively why tree paint does not help in the recovery of pruning wounds -- as far as I know, this was long before horticultural experts noticed. In re cavity filling, it seems to me the jury is not in on this question, and there may be circumstances in which filling is helpful. -- Burke Davis III, Trees Alive!
