Mike,

Please forgive what may sound a bit churlish and my comments will be of no use to you, but I couldn't help responding - and I will follow the US responses with interest.

In this state and country we have a compulsory insurance system for employers (called "Workcover") to provide cover for workers' compensation claims in the event of worker injury on the job and to protect employees from the hardship of lost work time.

While some empoyers will point to some abuse of and inequities in the system, I think that it would be Dickensian to expect employees to cover the cost of work place accidents while generating income for the employer.

(I'm an employer and I carry my own personal income protection insurance).

I'm sure that these comments may offend some "free traders" but this is a country also with a system of national health care (and compulsory use of seatbelts).
