Are Ornamental Cherries susceptible to apple scab?
I realize that cherries and apples are the same family,
but I have not found any information or research that
includes cherries when discussing Venturia.
The tree shows an 80% coverage of the photosynthetic area
but no holes in the leaves. Almost complete defoliation,
no staining in the wood, no damage to the bark, good moisture
content in the branches and twigs.
However the fruit looks suspiciously like it has apple scab,
there is no oozing and the roots are good and healthy. The
fungus on the leaves is not powdery but very sooty looking.
Sooty mold perhaps but why the defoliation?
Any information offered is greatly appreciated.
Many thanks. K.Pearce
