Consulting Arborists

The Department of Natural Resources just came out with their publication,"tree Link."
In the flyer was information on how to retain a consulting arborist.
The article went on to say it was required that the arborist be a member of ASCA.
Don't get me wrong, ASCA is a fine group of professionals. I have attended their workshops and have learned much.
My query is: why can't the I.S.A. put on workshops for arborists that want to do consulting work, but don't want to join, or can't
qualify for ASCA membership? I was talking to Tish Carr, who works for the DNR, and is
also the new education director for the PNW ISA, it sounded like a doable concept to her
Needless to say, the DNR was bombarded by local arborists, that also took exception to the article. Please forward your thoughts on this subject, so it can be discussed
at future chapter meetings.
Thanks,
Jim Pappas
