Just checked back in on this forum after several months. I was surprised to still be receiving responses to the Fundamental Arboricultural Assumptions thread of months ago! Congratulations to Mike Ellison of the UK for his recent insightful analysis of the situation. Mike apparently recognises that the primary service line of most arboricultural practitioners (Crown Thinning) rests on questionable suppositions. Unfortunately many of the responses were of a knee-jerk, defensive nature and failed to address the questions from a scientific perspective.
With no response from the academic community, I can only asssume that
1)The Fundamental Assumptions have never been tested.
or
2)No Academics read this forum.
or
3)Both
While I respect and admire those who devote their professional lives to the dissemination of knowledge, let it be known - NO I AM NOT A TEACHER!!!!!!
