the Senegal date palm, 25-30', seems to not mind the perpetual wrapping of white x-mas tree lights, i haven't noticed lights being a health hazard to trees. what could be a problem, magnetic fields? reduced dark period? the appeal of night lighting can be desirable, it is an attention getter in an attractive shopping center, Manalapan, fl. plants are amazingly resilient, if they tolerate the rest of the urban stresses, I would guess that low voltage, 110v with timers would be a stress they could handle. if it's "el natural" that your looking for, try leaving the city. Remember ! different strokes for diff folks, we have "people" in so fl (miami/boca) that wrap trees, buildings, islands and I imagine anything else they (Christo) can find :) in pink . So, if it's no lights you want, try scuba diving at night or visit the everglades for a midnight frog trip... Please respond if anyone knows of suspected or documented harm to plants from such described lighting practices.
