Methinks thou dost protest a bit much! If the original question
is are arborists environmentalists the answer is yes. The purpose
of any landscape is merely to extend our living spaces. Because
trees are a major factor in making that space more amenable to occupation,
arborists are certainly justified in calling themselves environmentalists
because of the impact we have on the living environments that we create in
those spaces.
You will undoubtedly accuse me of semantic tricks but if you routinely
advise clients to remove all woody plants from their properties and still
call yourself an arborist, you are as guilty as I. By the way,
home landscapes need succession communities about as much as your living room.
Go find yourself a prairie to live in and get the hell out of the trees.
