Hi,
I don't believe there is a difference in the half-hitch
and the Marlhitch. I think the the Marl hitch is an abreviated
form of Marline hitch. The term was probably coined to alienate
the lay person. The Marl hitch ( if you don't know ) is used
in rigging practices and is tied between a snatch block and
the tie in point on the tree when roping down a large log or block.
The Marline is set immediatley above the pie cut and serves to
lessen the shock on the rope by reducing the distance between the
tie-in and the block.
