I know this is a bit off the subject of
your last posting.
Personally, I have pruned hundreds of
Pyrus calleryana "Bradford" and they are
full of poor branching characteristic and
graft incompatabilities. We still have
a contract to prune about 50 trees, 40'-50'
tall. They are a mess, intersecting leaders
and included bark. If you prune one, just one
problem now you have a huge hole. Many people
are saying: We should start training basic
framework ASAP. Keeping cuts as small as
possible may be the best approach.
