Tri colored beech tree

I planted a 6 ft. tall in june of this year. Since then the leaves have curled and turned brown on the edges. I plant it in an area that drains fairly well but does stay damp. There appears to have been some buds develop at the end of some branches, but have not opened. The tree was a gift from my kids and expensive. Any recommendations or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks
