While I began in this business as a climber... I don't share our brethren's opinion... I think his point was something like `you have to have the knowledge and experience of being a tree climber to run a tree care business'.
Granted... it gives you a certain perspective... however, as our profession grows and improves.... people of many varied backgrounds are finding a place.
Furthermore, tree climbing and arboriculture are only one of the many aspects of running a business! In addition to backgrounds such as plant pathology, forestry, lnadscape architecture, etc., there is a need for business knowledge and training, public relations, personnel management, etc.
Besides... what's to stop you from hiring managers, salespeople and supervisors that do have the experience you may lack!
However... I do suggest you begin your arboriculture learning curve... and there's nothing like getting in the trees to put you in touch with them!
Good luck!
