Stihl,
Good to see you here again!
Over the past 15 years of Expo's
seminar's and so on, I have several
charts that list most species (large trees)
if you know the diameter, length and species
they'll give you the weight per foot. Green or
dead. Most charts are very close to each other
as well as accurate. I know this from picking
pieces with a crane (digital read out).

Manufactures will test load several blocks
at their testing grounds to prove the engineers
have calculated correctly. Same for eye spliced slings
they'll put a scale on the line to measure it.

But haven't you ever wondered, just what does this
weight? With the shock load (drop hitch) am I
over loading anything? Or, I KNOW I can take this
piece with no problems, BUT, I tired and I want to
finsh this job, let's take bigger piece!

It's your job, you can do it any way YOU want!
Work safe
You are correct, experience can't be replaced,
by anything!
