My wife and I built our home and moved in April 1997. At the time our Blackjack Oak out in front of the house was doing well. It flourished with large green leave all that summer, and was beautiful in the fall. In the spring of 1998, the tree came back in at the same time as the rest of the blackjacks and post oaks in the yard. But after a time I noticed the leaves were not fully maturing, they seemed very small and again not very green or full. I called an arborist who came out and treated the soil around the tree with fertiizers, one quick growth and another long term. Did we do the right thing or did we throw money away?
Currently, the trees leaves are brown and there hasn't been any sign at all of the tree turning around. Do they sometimes go somewhat dormant-into shock after these treatments? It has been about 4 weeks since treatment.
Please respond as soon as you can with some good advice, as you know, trees are very valuable to a property.
The name of the tree company was bartlett tree services.
