Knots

I'm having trouble with knots binding while trying to decend double rope. I've tried prusik,taut-line,blake in both 1/2" 3 strand and safty blue braid on 1/2" 16-strand safty blue. Any suggestions on knots and how to tie them, or rope/knot combinations would be greatly appreciated.
Stuck in a tree!
