I tie in above the block and below the cut; the difficulty is in
positioning for the cut in a comfortable 3 point, knowing the
saw might not cooperate fully. In some situations, I'm tied in
below the block which might allow the cut to swing out and back
into me. In this case, I try to put as much wood between myself
and the swinging piece as I can. Tall pines are the toughest
in No. VA to piece out with pulley and rope; I've had 'em swing
over to the next tree under the block, then swing back and
bash the tree I'm in. Fortunately, I had a death grip on the
tree I was in and the piece hit well below my perch. If you
never had a 15-20 swing in a 100' pine, you're better off without
it.
