Re: Chippers

Well hello everyone,
I'm finally writing in after watching this list for the
past 2 months.
Two months ago we purchased a Morbark model 17 (used).
Pior to that we used a Whisper Chipper (though it was far
from a whisperer).
I'd never say anything against the old chipper; as we
had used that model for over 30 years. With sharp blades on
it; it would chip 6" wood without a problem and softer woods
even larger. However, without a self-feeding roller it was
limited to live wood and even then could scare a new ground
man to a new job.
This Model 17 (the precursor to the model 2400, I think)
is a whole new thing. Having only worked with the other I
didn't know the capacity of these new chippers. The '94
Model 17 easily takes 12"+ wood; hard, soft, live, or dead.
Up to 15" when it's live soft woods. All self fed, need I
say more. They're a little pricey but well worth it if
you want to chip nearly everything in sight. I've had to
stop my ground crew from chipping so much when the customer
wants to keep the wood, or else they end up with spliting
wood and nothing smaller.
Hope that helps.
