Anonymity is of unknown origin according to most definitions. There
has been much second
hand discussion about this in relation to posting discussion. There are
two sides on every coin.
If we look at a room full of people and one orator discussing a subject,
some will openly ask
questions, others will not. In this scenario anonymity is good for some
that may never ask a
question, it allows them their view on a subject without fear of
personnel ridicule. A question,
thought or idea may come out that may not otherwise surface. On the
other hand it also allows
some to voice their personnel humor, punctuality perfection's, personnel
spell-check along with
some down right rude comments at the expense of another. Often these
comments have very
little to do with the original message the author was commenting on and
can be offensive. This
type of dialogue is detrimental to any discussion. That is why so many
have begun to sign their
postings by name. I think that this is a good direction for the
discussion group as a whole.
What does anonymity have to do with Arboriculture? Nothing What does
anonymity have to
do with a internet discussion group? It can be good or bad, it will not
change the meaning or
message of the author. There will always be anonymous authors, most will
be serious about the
topic in discussion, some will always want to be the joker. I am not
against humor, however I
am against humor at the expense of another that is trying to become a
active participant or ask a
question. The focus of this discussion group is to share Arboricultural
information for the benefit
of proper Arboriculture world wide. Some participants have left the
forum due to responses
they received. Some are coming back to the forum after a few months of
non participation, this
is good for the forum.
Several individuals using the same E-Mail address is very confusing.
In this case it has given a "
Jackal & Hide" effect. I can not imagine posting in this scenario. One
is serious and the other or
many others are not. A good posting is followed by a poor or derogatory
response with the
same address. There must be a way you can identify yourself from the
others with out using
your name. Like " Sharp Minds & Sharp Tools", " Have rope will travel",
" Education = Proper
Arboriculture", " Tall Trees & Taller Cranes".
