Oh good.... fellow old guys! I am 41 years old and have been cutting trees for over twenty years. Climbing them just came to me a couple years ago; "why not just climb that tree....". Cutting trees down and then climbing them is not nearly as fun as climbing them, then cutting them before you are back on the ground.

A timber cutter from Eastern Oregon told me that when they were kids, they would take turns climbing into alder trees and have the other kid chop it down with an axe. Now that is arbor passion! Are we getting old? When was the last time you were up in a tree and even thought about instructing someone to cut it down while you are still in it?

I hereby raise a cup of bar oil in salute of whoever the oldest tree climber ends up being. I myself intend to be a contestant as well....
