You didn't ask but I must answer. I agree with concentric, anyone who climbs without a saw lanyard either dropped a saw before or will drop one. I was too good to do something so stupid as drop a saw, but then it happened anyway. It's great to have your saw attached when climbing, but that isn't always good enough. Haven't you ever had a chain get caught in a bind just as the snap cut breaks free? A quick, savvy move will usually allow you to get it loose before it falls, but it only takes once to smash a saw (not to mention ground targets). Havn't you ever been bounced on a stub when you cut the end off a branch? Sure you knew it was coming, but sometimes it's not exactly what you expect. As determined as I am to hold on to the saw at all costs, I've still had a few scares where all I was thinking about was my ownself. and the lanyard was what kept the saw in the tree.
I know you don't need me to tell you how to climb, but if you can learn from my mistakes you won't have to learn from yours. A saw lanyard doen't have to be heavy or expensive, and you can still clip the saw on a biner when you're climbing.
Climb safe!
