Hello fellow tree climbers. I have been an arborist for 20 years as of Oct 16 this year and I try to learn something new each day. Thats one reason I visit this site. Seems we all share the same fundamental problems in this work we choose. One thing keeps ringing in my head wether its here on this site, in trade publications, in conversations with others in this feild, and even with my own employees. We speak of ourselves and those that work with us as if we are performing some god forsaken task and are the lowest lifeforms on the planet. Wake up guys and girls! We do something that most people can't or wouldn't do for whatever reason. We need to pat ourselves and our peers on the back for that. You know, being a ground man dosen't make you a bad person. No more than tattoos or long hair. I've spent twenty years building my own tree care business... with much help from others, and I remember well the days of being the climber and having to help hump the brush out of the back yard. We
are all in this game to
gether. Let's hold our heads high, lend a hand when we can, and tell the world that we are professionals, the whole lot of us. Remember that we started out "green" at some point in the past. Help the new guys become old guys and teach them everything you know. Don't spend time worrying about the other guys prices. We will always have the guys that advertise "guaranteed lowest price". He obviously knows what his work is worth. Why strive to be known as the cheapest "tree guy" in town. I'd rather work hard each and every day at being the best arborist in town. If we all do that, it can only make this industry better. The next time you see a job well done , wether by your own crew or somone elses, shake that hand or pat that back, beacause these guys are making it better for us all. See Ya at the Top. Art Smith
