I would say that this group has a chance to help,
the industry . To yank the cord on a project that is less
then a year old is quitting. All you need is someone to
monitor the responses , you can not slander people any where
else , so why do it hear . If you don't like the ISA or any
of the programs they support , your not going to change a things
with freedom of speech outbursts. I am a certified Arborist
and I am glad I became one , I don't worry about what other
people do with their certification because the ISA has people
who do that already , if you have a serious problem call the
ISA. Don't lose your mind trying to make everybody care for
tree's the way you do .
Arbor Games is a good program , I don't agree with it
for my own reasons, But where else if you
are a young climber and you want to learn new and different
ways to climb a tree are you going to learn these ways .
The way Ken and Rip climb are not going to kill you ,these
guys can climb tree's. Do you know how hard it is to stand
in front of a bunch of know it all treemen ? Know matter
how you do something ,somebody does it different. Teaching
climbing and rigging classes is good for the industry , if
they charge $800, and come out learning one thing , isn't it
worth it? The industry is spread thin , and all the old
companies that had 3-4 crews with old guys handing down
knowledge aren't there anymore, some of these guys need to
go to a school and learn something. There is not enough time
on a job to teach any body fast enough. The new videos that
the ISA has made are great for young climbers,{and older guys too} and the price
is more than reasonable , if you can't afford Arbor Games than
you can purchase these video's. I am sure if you bring something
home from a rigging school and your employer does not like it
then he / she will tell you so and why.
This discussion group has just got in the air , now let's
keep it their , you can start by thinking before you write,
and responding with good subjects. There are plenty of things
to discuss .Get serious.
