Urban Forestry Technician
Location: Edmond, OK
Salary: 16.38-18.94 per hour
DUTIES:
- Visit properties where vegetation management is planned and contact residents to review work to be done. Respond to questions, comments, concerns or request for special accommodations.
- Relay any specific site or customer considerations to contracted tree pruning crews.
- Establish a schedule for watering and water trees using a water trailer.
- Perform tree care, such as pruning, planting, applying herbicide, pesticide, soil amendments and mulch.
- Manage contracted pruning crew scheduling and customer service as work progresses.
- Assist in loading, unloading, heeling in and transporting nursery plant stock by hand or with the use of tractors or other heavy machinery.
- Attend public events to assist in event set up, hosting, take down and clean up.
- Identify and repair irrigation system issues on department managed systems.
- Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or GED plus specialized schooling and/or 2 years of Horticulture, Forestry, Landscaping or related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Associates of Arts of Science degree in related field preferred.
- Valid Oklahoma driver’s license and good driving record.
- Possess, or be able to obtain within one year of employment, International Society of Arboriculture Certified Arborist certification.
- Knowledge of tree pruning, plant identification, and landscape management.
- Ability to operate vehicles with towing equipment and operate power tools.
- Physical ability to lift up to 25 pounds regularly and on occasion up to 100 pounds.
- Ability to read and follow maps.
