Job Title: Manager, Utility Vegetation Management

Job Summary:

Support all company operations in developing business opportunities through specialized training, technology transfer, enhancing corporate image, public relations, quality control and regulatory compliance.

Workload:

Recommendations and Field Assistance (40%) – Help VP’ s, managers, supervisors and general forepersons with questions on line clearance, equipment or herbicide applications from their customers. Write technical articles for trade publications, company magazine and news releases. Work with upper management on bid review process and provide supporting documents. Support Corporate Communications with articles, technical editing and marketing collaboration for business development.

National and Regional Meetings (20%) – Attend national and regional vegetation management meetings, Create and give presentations for industry group programs to enhance the corporate image and public relations profile. Represent company by serving on industry and regulatory committees.

Customer Calls (visits)/Presentation Requests (20%) – Assist company field personnel with sales calls. Host managers and their customers on visits to the home office. Respond directly to customer requests for information and relay this information to company field personnel. Assist customers in the development of comprehensive right of way management plans.  Provide technical proposals.

Training (10%) – Instruct at training sessions, field training meetings, GF meetings, Manager meetings, supervisor meetings and more. Monitor changes in environmental laws and arboriculture regulations.

Herbicide IVM (5%) – Assist in all areas of field support, 65-year research project (Game Lands 33/Green Lane), and market analysis of trends for new products and application techniques.

Miscellaneous (5%) Special projects as needed, and develop responses for issues such as invasive weeds, plant diseases and insect infestations. Consult with chemical companies, railroads, pipeline, and advisory groups. Legal and Risk Management in writing position papers, providing expert witness testimony, on worker compensation and legal matters.

Travel - 30% to 40% the Managers time is spent out of the office on field visits, meetings and sales calls.

Personal Qualifications:

1) Education

1. Bachelor of Science in Forestry, Natural Resources or related field
2. ISA or Utility Arborist Certification is preferred
3. Active membership in Utility Vegetation Management Associations (regional or national)

2) Experience and Skills

1. Minimum of 10 years in arboriculture/urban forestry, with 5 years in utility vegetation management preferred.
2. Excellent writing skills for white papers, technical documents, articles and bid proposals.
3. Excellent oral communication skills for working with top corporate officials and field crews alike.
4. Experience in managing staff.
5. Proficient in Word, Excel and Powerpoint
6. Willing to travel
7. Ability to quickly adapt and manage a variety of assignments and settings

Success Will Be Evaluated By:

1) Effectiveness of service to field personnel and customers 
2) Professional quality of articles, presentations, etc.
3) Effectiveness in enhancing professional image of company and Technical Services Division.
4) Minimizing customer complaints and property damage claims.
